E-Supply Chain (April 2001) Summary

According to our latest research findings, around a quarter of companies have re-engineered their supply chain in some way during the last six months – and about the same number intend to do so in the next six months.

This reveals a state of almost constant upheaval in the supply chain area – as internet technologies and increased collaboration with suppliers, partners and customers combine to encourage companies to continually ‘tweak’ their supply chains.

Our research report finds out how many have tweaked their systems enough to establish ‘virtual’ or fully integrated supply chains, while management briefing articles elsewhere examine specific topics like the retail or ‘e-tail’ supply chain (Simon Tomlinson), advanced planning systems (Mark Mason) and the need for board level input to e-supply chain strategy – a theme picked up by both PA’s Jeremy Hammant and Chris Webster of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.
