Q1: Overall view.

A: The different information technologies have emerged at different points in time and have, until recently, been disconnected from each other as companies have primarily invested in the type of technology they most critically need. IDC views knowledge management as a business process which is supported by these different technologies. Enterprise information portals hold the promise of confederating these disparate investments so as to be able to leverage organisational knowledge further.
