All technology is an approximation to perfection rather than perfection itself. No matter how well the technology may do the job for which it was designed, something better can always be developed.
The Victorians, for example, envisaged people of the future travelling from one country to another in giant hot-air balloons. But they knew next to nothing of aerodynamic principles that permit a heavier-than-air vehicle to fly.
