Enterprise Application Integration (February 2001) Summary
Enterprise application integration is a difficult area of technology, which exists to deal with a thorny business problem.
As companies bring new e-business and customer management systems online, they increasingly need a ‘solution’ that can integrate all this new technology with their existing IT.
Any such solution can encompass a range of strategies and change programmes as well as ‘middleware’ and other technology, all grouped under the heading EAI: and while it may be easy for clients to appreciate the business issues involved, committing to EAI technology as the answer is another matter.
Our research article tracks the scale of the problem in making clients aware of what EAI can do. Consultants from Deloitte Consulting, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and other firms predict the future for EAI in our Round Table article.
Elsewhere, management briefing articles from the likes of Rubus and Unisys put forward a practical approach to EAI projects, and the systems design and implementation issues involved.
