SURVEY STATISTICS

For this survey, Consultants’ Advisory conducted telephone interviews with 66 companies in total. Of these, 50 were currently using a combination of workflow, document management and related business process automation products.

The remaining 16 organisations contacted were identified as not currently using any workflow or business process automation software. We were interested to know the reasons why they had not considered, or had rejected, these technologies, and their replies are also included in the survey results.

Overall, our survey concentrated on the larger organisations who have demonstrated the greatest need for this kind of software. Just under a half of the sample (47%) had turnovers of between £10 million and £150 million, while the remainder were in the £150 million-plus range. Some 30% had turnovers greater than £1 billion.

Respondents were drawn from a wide range of industry sectors, with 15% in the banking and finance area, 16% in manufacturing and 9% drawn from the public sector.

The software is sound and the benefits are real, but it remains difficult to manage some of the cultural issues involved in adopting the technologies.

That is the conclusion of this year’s survey into workflow, document management and business process automation products.

To assess the current workflow and DM market, we questioned not only a large core group of companies currently using the technology, we also sought the views of organisations who have not yet gone down this path.
