Q1: PM/PSA relationship.

A: On one level, effective project management (and change management) is needed to implement PSA successfully. More importantly, many PSOs and ISOs operate on a ‘projects’ or ‘cases’ basis, often at fixed-price. These include management and IT consultants, surveyors, architects and so on.

The data they use to manage their projects should be exactly the same data as is used to manage the overall practice, and that data should be input once and only once. This should include time expended on the project (or case) by each person in that time period, plus details of expenses charged to the project (or case) by each person in that time period.

The manner by which the invoices have been derived should be transparent. And all of this data should feed in directly to the analysis of each person’s activities in each time period.
