In one key respect, the 2002 Big 5 mergers and acquisitions, closures and redundancies are not ‘more of the same’: they were sparked off by financial scandal – and this has tainted the image of these large consultancy firms by association.
This, combined with the confusing picture of multiple mergers and takeovers, could prompt clients to review their consultancy arrangements, creating a short to medium-term market opportunity for IT consultancies and mid-tier management consultancies.
