Issue Summary

A PMP Research study of strategic alliances between consultants and IT vendors finds that partnering is still going strong despite massive upheaval in the market. Pat Sweet reports.

While these factors were important across all the countries involved in the research, the relative priorities differed markedly. For example, in The Netherlands, Scandinavia and Switzerland, the size and stability of a potential partner was the most important factor overall. Similarly, calibre of people was of key importance to Italian consultants and their Swiss counterparts.

The factors which scored 4.0 or more were clearly the ones which carry the greatest weight at the beginning of the alliance process. Once a partnership is established, factors such as open discussion and sharing of ideas (3.8) increase substantially in importance.
