It has been a tough 12 months for consultants and systems integrators (CSIs), who are struggling with continued depressed economic conditions, the introduction of strict corporate governance regulations and the advent of new competitors. Added to this, many are also having to review their strategic alliances with IT vendors who are in turn facing their own problems.

The landscape of the IT industry has altered substantially over the past two or three years. First came the tremors caused by the post-millennium slowdown in IT spending, closely followed by the seismic shocks generated by the Enron scandal and the dotcom boom-to-bust cycle.
