Companies are planning to spend their limited financial systems budgets on extracting better management information, according to our new survey. Pat Sweet reports.

Half of the respondents use online services to offer remote access to financial and accounting information – for example, via a laptop or mobile for workers who are away from their desk. E-catalogues (48%) are another popular option, along with company portals and knowledge management initiatives (46%) and e-procurement (42%).

There are also signs that e-government initiatives such as online PAYE or VAT registration are becoming more widely used (34%). However, e-marketplaces, once touted as one of the most compelling reasons to go online, have failed to attract much attention (22%).
