Enterprise Project Management & PSA
May 2004 - Summary
Enterprise project management and professional services
automation (PSA) software is at a crossroads: the market is
being supported by the specialist vendors, Microsoft and leading
ERP players, all of whom are active in this area.
Yet users still have some concerns about the capabilities
and cost of the packages, according to our research
findings.
So where will the market go next – on an upwards or downward
spiral?
Kelvin Kirby of Technology Associates believes that the extra
capabilities of web-based project management packages
– in key areas like balanced scorecar analysis and progress
tracking – means this software will increasingly be seen as
providing benefit to senior executives.
Tony Kippenberger of the Centre for Strategic Business Studies
also identifies a specific opportunity
for consultants in administering a new way for companies
to assess how well they manage projects.
Yet the nagging doubt remains that the overlap/confusion
between PM and PSA packages continues to hold the market back.
Gareth Lewis looks for a way past that conundrum in his article.
