Often BI systems are monitored from within, to assess which parts of the system are being used more than others. This is essential for the overall systems growth and development, though it tells the organisation little about the activities involved.

Generally, there is little need to monitor the actual usage of BI systems from a security perspective. Where this is required, it can include the number of times a particular person has failed to log in within a certain time, and other factors needed in order to establish whether a system is under attack.
